Hi folks! It’s Madeline and Charlotte here. We are thrilled to present the first episode of our new weekly podcast, The Sports Gossip Show. It’s going to be so much fun to keep you updated on all the juiciest developments in the very messy, very silly world of sports.
IN THIS EPISODE:
Keep reading after this week’s show description to learn more about the show!
Madeline and Charlotte predict whether Taylor Swift will be at Travis Kelce’s next NFL game…
…and dive into all the clues that WNBA star A’ja Wilson and NBA star Bam Adebayo are dating….
…and break down now-benched Carolina Panther’s QB Bryce Young’s very bad week (his ex-girlfriend is now dating — well, listen to find out).
They also talk about the latest college football Halloween costume…
…how Patrick Mahomes’ Nebraska look-a-like has a brother with more eerie similarities…
…and wonder if Caitlin Clark will host SNL after she appeared in a very funny Instagram video.
Also, why did all the NBA stars at the premiere of their new reality show look like they were dressed for different events?
THE BACKSTORY
and met through Substack, and quickly realized that our areas of expertise overlapped perfectly to host this show together. You know, a show for the people who watch sports with one eye on the game and the other on the “Personal Life” section of athletes’ Wikipedia pages. Because isn’t it much more fun to watch the action on the field if you know they’re doing off of it?
That’s the premise of The Sports Gossip Show. Simply put: if ESPN and Bravo had a baby, this would be the baby.
Madeline is the founder of sports gossip newsletter Impersonal Foul, and has deep roots in the entertainment business. Charlotte has been reporting on, writing about, and opining about sports for over a decade, currently for Meadowlark Media and her newsletter, The Wilder Things.
We’re both obsessed with the mess, drama, and excitement that surrounds sports. So we’re starting SGS for all the fans — and sports-curious people! — who are, too.
And we’re doing it all ourselves.
There are countless companies devoted to producing and distributing shows; these entities shoulder the costs of production and pay the hosts for their time.
But that could have meant compromising on our vision, which is to provide you with smart, funny, non-condescending sports talk that focuses on the stories behind the people you see on prime-time.
We’re producing and funding The Sports Gossip Show so that we can have full ownership. We’re basically the Jeannie Busses of podcasting (Jeannie Buss owns the Lakers) (that wasn’t even a clever joke).
That’s where you come in.
Unlike Jeannie Buss, we do not have millions of dollars to keep our budding media empire going, lol. So, if you like what we’re up to around here, we’d be very grateful if you’d consider becoming a paying subscriber for just $8/month or $80/year.
We both know what a big deal it is to ask you to pay for something, especially if you already subscribe to our newsletters. And we’re going to make sure you get the most bang for your buck.
We’re so excited about the community we’re going to grow alongside this show. The people who hang with us each week are going to be the best part of the whole thing, and we can’t wait to gossip about and dissect the latest news together.
That means weekly episodes, yes, but it also means live chats, mailbag episodes, and even more fun stuff that we have up our sleeves.
It’s also important to note that this show really is for everyone. Whether you’re a die-hard fan who has the standings of multiple leagues memorized, or someone who really does think that Taylor Swift put Travis Kelce on the map.
No matter who you are, we hope you enjoy the first episode!
As we like to say around here, “If it’s off the court, it’s on The Sports Gossip Show.”
